Every year examination is held across Maharashtra on various locations such as Gadchiroli, Mumbai, Amravati, Pune, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Dhule, Nanded, Panaji, Nagpur, Nasik, Jalgaon, Solapur, Chandrapur, and Aurangabad. Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune) conducts the State Eligibility test on the behalf of state government to determine the eligibility of a person to be appointed as Assistant Professor in Universities/affiliated colleges.

The SET will be conducted in Objective Mode. All the three papers consist of only objective type questions and will be held on the day of Examination in two separate sessions. Candidates are required to note that there is no negative marking.


  • The candidates must have Master's Degree recognized by U.G.C.
  • The candidates other than SC/ST/OBC/SBC/DT/NT category, who have secured at least 55% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in Master’s or equivalent examination, are eligible for this test. OBC/SBC/DT/NT [belonging to non-creamy layer] and SC/ST/PH/VH (PH-Physically Handicapped. VH-Visually Handicapped i.e. Blind) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in Master’s or equivalent examination are eligible for this test.
  • Candidates can appear for SET in the subject of their Post Graduation only.
  • To apply for the SET there is no upper age limit.

Exam Pattern:

Second III 75 questions all of which are compulsory 75 x 2 = 150 2 1/2 hours (02.00 p.m. to 04.30 p.m.)

Maharashtra SET Cut off Marks

MAHA SET Exam 2016 Paper wise cut off marks for General and Reserved candidate are given in below table. Cut off marks for General candidate for paper 1 & 2 are 40% and 50% for paper 3. Cut off marks for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) and PwD / SC / ST for paper 1 & 2 is 35% and 40% for paper 3.
